Individual Counselling

Sometimes life can feel overwhelming, complicated, or simply harder than it should. You might be experiencing anxiety, stress, low mood, grief, relationship difficulties, workplace challenges or a period of significant change.

Individual counselling gives you a private, supportive space to talk openly, make sense of what is happening and work towards meaningful change. We take a practical, person-centred approach, tailoring counselling to you rather than expecting you to fit into a particular way of working.

Individual counselling can support you with:

  • Anxiety, stress and overwhelm

  • Depression and low mood

  • Grief and loss

  • Self-esteem and confidence

  • Relationship and family difficulties

  • Workplace stress

  • Life transitions and periods of uncertainty

Family Counselling

Families can become stuck in patterns that are difficult to shift on their own. Stress, changing roles, parenting pressures, communication differences and major life events can all affect the way family members relate to one another.

Family counselling provides a supportive space to slow things down, understand what is happening beneath the conflict and help each person feel heard. The focus isn't on deciding who is right or wrong, but on identifying patterns that are no longer working and finding healthier ways to communicate, respond and move forward together.

Carly works with families experiencing a range of challenges, including:

  • Ongoing conflict or communication breakdown

  • Parent and adolescent difficulties

  • Parenting stress and differing parenting approaches

  • Blended family challenges

  • Changes in family roles or circumstances

  • Neurodivergence within the family

  • Relationship strain between family members

  • Difficulty understanding or responding to each other's needs

Sessions may involve the whole family or particular family members, depending on what will be most helpful.

Couples & Relationship Counselling

Relationship difficulties can show up in many ways, from constant conflict to feeling more like housemates than partners.

You might be having the same arguments over and over, feeling disconnected, struggling with trust or intimacy, carrying resentment, or wondering whether your relationship can get back to where it once was.

Relationship counselling provides a space to slow things down and understand what is happening underneath the conflict. Rather than deciding who is right or wrong, we look at the patterns between you, what each person is experiencing and what your relationship needs moving forward.

Carly works with couples at all stages of their relationship, whether you want to reconnect, work through something difficult, improve communication or gain clarity about what comes next.

Relationship counselling can help with:

  • Communication and recurring conflict

  • Emotional disconnection

  • Trust, betrayal and relationship injuries

  • Intimacy and affection

  • Resentment and unresolved hurt

  • Parenting and mental load

  • Neurodivergence within relationships

  • Major life changes and relationship stress

  • Deciding whether and how to move forward together

NDIS Counselling

Living with disability, chronic illness or neurodivergence can affect many areas of life, including emotional wellbeing, relationships, identity, confidence, independence and connection with others.

NDIS counselling at Thrive provides a supportive, practical space to explore these challenges in a way that recognises the whole person, not just a diagnosis or support need.

Carly brings both professional and lived experience to her work. Before becoming a counsellor, she worked as a registered nurse across paediatric and adult settings, giving her a strong understanding of health, disability, complex needs and the impact these can have on individuals and families. Carly is also neurodivergent and has lived experience of chronic illness, which informs her understanding of the practical and emotional realities of navigating health, disability and everyday life.

Her approach is warm, collaborative and grounded in helping people better understand themselves, build on their strengths and develop strategies that feel realistic and useful.

Counselling may support you with:

  • Anxiety, stress and emotional regulation

  • Autism and ADHD-related challenges

  • Building confidence and self-understanding

  • Identity and adjusting to diagnosis

  • Chronic illness and changing health needs

  • Relationships and communication

  • Family conflict and changing family dynamics

  • Social connection and isolation

  • Carer stress and burnout

  • Navigating significant life transitions

  • Building practical strategies for everyday wellbeing

NDIS counselling is available for self-managed and plan-managed participants.

Sessions can be tailored to the individual and may also involve family members or carers where appropriate.
